Introduction:

Initially Microbiology was a part of Department of Pathology. Microbiology was separated and became independent department. It caters the microbiological investigational need of Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Nagpur. It performs different types of investigations in sections of bacteriology, serology, virology, parasitology, mycology, mycobacteriology, immunology& hospital infection control. Its teaching programme includes various medical & paramedical courses like MD (Microbiology), MBBS, Dental, BPMT, DMLT, Nursing, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy etc.

Its MD (Microbiology) degree is started in 1977 with 2 seats. It is MCI recognized. The intake capacity of MD seats increased from two to four in 2013.

Achievements of HDL (ICTC I/II/SRL/CD4)

  • Awarded as a best performing ICTC/PPTCT in Maharashtra on the occasion of World AIDS day on 1/12/2006 at Nashik by deputy chief minister and state health minister, Govt. of Maharashtra and felicitated by cash award of Rs.10,000/-
  • Certificate for outstanding performance in quality assurance in HIV testing and achieving international standard as per ISO 15189, by National AIDS control organization Ministry of Health & Family welfare Government of India in 2014.
  • Certificate of participation in HIV serology EQAS Round 1 & 2 by National AIDS Research
  • Receive certificate of Accreditation from National Accreditation board for testing and calibration laboratories as per ISO-15189-2012 for microbiology and serology (HIV serology and CD4 enumeration) in 9/11/15.
