Introduction:

  • The department of Anaesthsiology was started functioning in the year 1965. Dr. M.S. Dubey (1965-72) was the first Professor & Head of Dept. anaesthesia. Subsequently Dr. R. K. Pradhan (1972- 19 83), Dr. Hema Mankeshwar (1983-1998), Dr. Malti Phadke (1998-2000), Dr. K. Kale (2000- 2006), Dr. Ranjana Deshmukh (2006- 2007) & Dr. Sushma Pande (2007-2010) were the prof. & Heads of the department. Dr. Pradeep Dhumane & Dr. Vijay Shrotey were the officiating prof. & Heads of the department between 2010-2011.Dr Naresh Tirpude was the Prof and HOD from 7th June 2011 to 31st Dec 2021. Dr. Anjali Savargoankar was the Prof. & Head of Dept. of anaesthesia since 6th January 2022 to 27 May 2022.Dr Wasudeo Barsagade was the officiating prof and HOD between 2021 to 2023.
  • Currently Dr Megha Tajane is Prof & Head of the Department of Anaesthesilogy since 19 th January 2023.
  • The Diploma in Anaesthesiology postgraduate course was started in 1962. The MD anaesthesiology course in anaesthesiology was started in 1972 under the Nagpur University, Nagpur.
  • The current admission strength of MD Anaesthesiology P. G. Course is 20 (twenty) per year.This  Course is MCI Recognized.
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) Operation Theatre - 13 admissions per year.
  • The Department of anaesthesiology is catering the anaesthesia services to following sections depts. of hospital- a) Operation Theatre: A, C, D, E, G, F, b) Radio-diagnosis Dept: MRI, CT & Interventional Radiology. c) Labor room: Pain services d) Casualty dept.: Resuscitation services, e) PACU & ICU care to surgical patients, f) Resuscitation services to ICCU & wards, g) Trauma care centre operation Theatre & ICU of trauma centre, h) VVIP Duty & Medical services to VVIP at Nagpur & nearby area
  • Conducting Basic Life Support training programmes for interns,paramedics and lay persons.
  • Center for AHA certified courses for BLS and ACLS.
  • Center for DNB anaesthesiology exams.
  • Center for Pain Clinic and Management by pain physician Dr Vrishali Ankalwar .
  • Pain fellowship course have been started from 2023 in this center after postgraduation.

Workshop/CME/Conference

1) The Department of Anaesthesiology GMCH Nagpur has conducted practical oriented teaching( POTC) course 2022 on 4 to 6 march under ISA Nagpur city branch.

2) The CPCR programme was conducted on 28 May 2022 for Occupational therapy interns.

3) The ACLS and BLS course and workshop was conducted on 12 to 14th August 2022.

4) The Ultrasound guided regional and peripheral nerve blocks- one day hands on scanning workshop was conducted on  8th January 2023

5) The Department of Anaesthesiology has conducted a  COLS hands on training was conducted on october 16, 2022( World Anaesthesia Day ) for the general public.

6) Online Lectures on various topics have beeen conducted by faculty of Department of Anaesthesia on the National Medical College Network on December 15 , 2022.

7) The department of anaesthesia conducted successfully an AHA certified ACLS BLS workshop on 24, 25 26 March 2023.  

8) CME on topic anaesthetic consideration in patients with cardiac diseases for non cardiac surgeries was conducted successfully by department of anaesthesia on 11 june 2023.

9) On the occasion of celebration of WORLD ANAESTHESIA DAY on 16 oct 2023 have been conducted blood donation programme in GMC blood bank and COLS activity at OPD premises,BLS activity for nursing college.

10) In GMC trauma center - Cadaver Organ Donation was conducted sucessfully on 5th november 2023.                                                  11) Department of Anesthesiology have been conducted CME on 13 DECEMBER 2023 ABG UNDERSTANDING successfully.
