Introduction:

Human Physiology is one of the core subjects in basic Medical Sciences. Physiology Department was established with the inception of Government Medical College, Nagpur in 1947. Dr Narendra Singh was First Head of the Department. Currently the Department is headed by Dr. Jyotsana Bharshankar.

The Department provides world class Medical Education not only to M.B.B.S. students but also to various other streams of Medical Sciences. With commencement of Post-graduate course i.e. M.D Physiology in the Department in 1952 (MCI Recognized), hundreds of Physiologist passed out from the department till date and are spread all over the world working as renowned Medical Teachers and efficient Researchers . 

The Department has fully equipped modern Hematology, Clinical, Amphibian and Mammalian laboratories along with Post-graduate Research laboratory. The Physiology Department also serves the patients by running pulmonary function Testing and Semen Analysis laboratories. ac

1) A comparative Cross-Secctional study of heart rate variability among swimmer, runner and sedentary young adults.

2) Influence of obesity on heart rate variability in nurses with age and shift type as moderators.

3) Study of Cardiorespiratory endurance & Muscular Endurance in your healthy adults and its corelation with Body Mass Index. (ICMR-STS Project)

4) A novel designed and implementation of student-led Flipped classroom teaching learning model to promote Self Directed Learning in First Year MBBS students.

Awards & Achievements

Dr. Rajratna Ramteke Assistant Professor won the First prize in Best Oral Paper Presentation in PHYSIOCON 2022 an International conference held at Datta Meghe Medical college Nagpur In January 2022.
